Welcome to Brownsville City Limits ~ From Four Posts to Four Corners

The Four posts would have indicated Hwy 48 and Hwy 4 intersections but what becomes confusing for some is that International Blvd (Hwy 4) turns onto Boca Chica Blvd (Hwy 4 to Boca Chica Beach) but becomes South Padre Island (Hwy 48) which continues from turn off Boca Chica Blvd (Hwy 48 from Brownsville).  Too make juxtapositioning of these main arteries even more confusing is that where E 14th St ends it is joined with International Blvd which becomes South Padre Island Hwy.

Are you following this?

Brownsville Herald clipping from July 30, 1931

We're going to credit Henry L. Faulk as being the first person on record to call the intersection of 14th and Boca Chica "Four Corners." Previously it had been called "Four posts". Brownsville Herald clipping from Mar 11, 1948.  We'll assume that the small section of street from 14th onto International was called 14th St until International Blvd got its name (another historical tidbit to solve unless anyone knows and can get that info to us)

Google Map of intersection known locally as "Four Corners"

Google image of International Blvd (Hwy 4) with Boca Chica (Hwy 48 intersecting from left, South Padre Island Hwy 48 directly ahead and Boca Chica continuing toward airport and beach as Hwy 4.
