Juan Montoya mentions an address in his Rrun Rrun article about the Robert Runyon legacy and fallacy; not his - but that of all the historical collections which have gone to Austin.
Back to the address. I'm just going to post these in this order as a sort of puzzle which I will solve later and edit.
Robert Runyon was also Mayor Runyon
Local politics became Runyon's passion in the late 1930s. He was appointed Brownsville city manager in 1937 and in 1941 was elected mayor. The "stormy petrel" of Brownsville politics, as Runyon was known, held the position through 1943. In 1952 he unsuccessfully ran for Texas House of Representatives.

The first photo is the location where Runyon built his photographic studio about 1921. After closing his photography business about 1928, the building later was the laboratory for his botanical research as well as housing his extensive library of books on botany, Mexico, genealogy and some Texas. This building was torn down in 1968. The second photograph was his original studio that was also moved to his property near the alley between St. Charles and St. Francis streets. This building still is on the property. The third photo is of Robert and Amelia Medrano Runyon's home at 812 E. St. Charles Street. Runyon purchased it about 1921.

ReplyDeleteWe are the current owners of those houses on Saint Charles St. We bought them from the Runyon family in 1990. I've lived there almost all my life.
ReplyDeleteI lived next door to Mr. and Mrs. Runyon at 810 E. St. Charles St.
ReplyDeleteMy parents rented the two story house from Mr. Runyon from the mid 50’s until November 1968.
