1930's ~ Montezuma Cafe postcards ~ Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mx.

The Montezuma Cafe was owned by Mrs. Emma Leonard and managed by her husband George and Charlie Warden.  It advertised itself as a cafe, bar and casino.  People could go there to dance any night to music by the "Cafe Orchestra" out on the patio in an Old Mexico setting.
Unlike the top photo, the wall mural depicting a scene out of Don Quixote includes caricatures of the Don and his sidekick Sancho Panza, this postcard has a bullfight poster in the background and ccok fight in the Plaza advertised on the bar mirror.
Also written on mirror is  "Every Sunday Admission Free" and it looks like a beanie capped shoeshine boy
An exterior photocard of the Hotel "Montezuma" and Bar from the plaza.  Another popular bar frequented by Brownsvillians was the Texas Bar also known as "Nick's Place" is visible.
