Taking it to the Streets (Part 1 of 4)

November 2011
This drifter asked for a cigarette and was usually seen around town with fancy scarves and his guitar.  His name is Jeffrey Paul Cutlip.  He was recently sentenced to three consecutive life sentences for the murders of Marlene Carlson, 44, in 1975 and Julie Bennet, 15, in 1977 and Niielene Doll, 33, in 1993.  He was in Brownsville when he turned himself in to police in July 2012 and was extradited to Portland, Oregon.

Here's that link to serial killer Jeffrey Cutlip with 911 call he made from Brownsville, Texas to turn himself in.

"I'm Jesus Christ, I'm a Cholo, I'm Jehovah." This is Alvarado (I think). He walks in baby steps and can barely speak. The English translation on the front of his shirt is written on the back.

Taking it to the Streets (Part 2 of 4)

August 2011
"Space Jam" wanted to be posted on my FaceBook page because he wanted to show he has all he needs in that basket which he proudly keeps covered with that blanket.  He makes a split-second close-up appearance in the "One of the Few" video posted earlier this month

Mr. D. Clark drives his passengers safely to and fro through the hustle and bustle of our little city on the border by the sea.

When the sun goes down and the streets are bare you may encounter "Mario" wheeling his way downtown and whiling away the time.
Mario looking much brighter later during the week. He didn't remember me but asked me if I'd take his photo (his wheelchair was next to him). Notice anything else odd about the photo?
August 2011
It was 97 degrees but felt like 107 and then I see this man taking a nap on 13th and Washington St with a 24ounce beer and bottle of what looks like rubbing alcohol next to him. I won't even wonder what that must be like.
November 2011
"Fernando" having a Diet Coke wanted to know if I had a car. I told him I didn't.

Closing 14th St off once construction began on the new B.U.S. terminal meant death for my favorite hot dog stand. The owner lived in Matamoros but had this little stand in Brownsville for over sixteen years. His hot dogs with grilled onions, tomatoes and sliced jalapenos were so good I'd walk a few blocks from the college just for the fun of sitting on a stool and shooting the bull with Rafael.

Recio's Food and Gifts at 202 E Saint Francis St. is not your typical Mom-&-Pop store converted from a residential home but a very good example. These little neighborhood stores are becoming rarer each year.
 August 2011
A modern day water carrier. In the old days "piperos" would roll a barrel full of water tied on a rope. Taken on 10th and Elizabeth St passing photo-mural.
 October 2010
When KGBT Ch4 news visited the Cameron County Courthouse I met this man riding by on a beach cruiser which he had taken a great pride in.
 July 2011
I met this "boleador" with his homemade shoeshine boxes on Elizabeth and Palm Blvd.
 January 2010
This man had an interesting hat and was more than happy to have his photo taken at the intersection of Jackson and International Blvd. while I waited for the light to change.
August 2011
This man likes to have his photo taken can always be seen downtown wearing something colorful and loose like his personality. We'll call him "Space Jam" (his idea).
