An ancient steamboat anchor be Chamber of Commerce Park is the spot where many visitors enjoyed the local history of our culture on the Rio Grande and there was also a 1877 Baldwin 2-4-2 locomotive parked there which now sits at the Historic Brownsville Museum on E Madison and 7th St. No one seems to know what happened to the anchor so please give us a holler at (956) 555-KBRO if you know what happened to it.
At the right is the Moody Hotel and Texaco gas station garage corner seen elsewhere on this blog.
The city should reinstate this MoPac Depot Chamber Park again. The space is now a giant parking lot that no one uses. I've never seen that parking lot even a quarter full. And with the new parking garage being built, we won't even need it. So why not put the space to some good use and bring back the park. We need a Green Area or Space in Downtown! With nice trees around it, and an open grassy field in the middle for play, events, and concerts! As for the missing Anchor KBRO, I guess we can replace it with a replica in the exact same spot. :-)
ReplyDeleteFirst things first. As you know the city is moving forward with its renovation of the City Hall / Market Square building and surrounding spaces and building acquisitions. That is the heart of the city. Let's wait and see if El Jardin comes back to life. It was brought by a large company that renovates hotels but I haven't seen any activity there lately but then again, I have not been checking a whole lot neither. Anyone know what's happening with El Jardin?
